El Golco Fiesta

Fiestas are an integral part of Spanish life and each village and town in La Alpuarra de La Sierra region has at least one big party a year. Our tiny village is no exception and celebrates each year on the first weekend in September.

Preparations begin in August with street sweeping, preparing the church and booking the bands, all overseen by El Major Domo (elected each year). A committee brings the event together,with church services on Friday and Saturday, a marching band and the procession of La Virgin statue of Gracia, Patron Saint of the village through the winding streets accompanied by the band and much pyrotechnics, followed by a communal feast. Finally of course, there is dancing to live bands into the early hours on Friday and Saturday. This is a true flavour of rural Spanish life and for us, an event not to be missed.
